Path of Exile 3.28 Mirage introduces a new expansion set in the lands of the Faridun, where a rogue sect seeks to harness the power of captured Djinn for dangerous and corrupt purposes. Alongside a legendary Maraketh Sekhema, players will work to put an end to a growing ancient war and restore balance before this twisted power consumes Wraeclast.
This expansion delivers a wide range of new content and system changes, including:
A brand new Challenge League
New and reworked Skill and Support Gems
Major Atlas and Endgame changes
Over 40 Exceptional Support Gems
A wide range of Quality of Life improvements
Together, these additions reshape both the campaign journey and the endgame experience.
The Rejected of the Faridun

The Afarud, the most twisted and depraved of the Faridun, have formed a pact with Saresh, a powerful necromancer who commands an army of undead. Their goal is to harness the power of the Djinn and twist it for their own destructive ambitions.
For generations, they have spread plague and darkness, stealing power and committing unspeakable acts. With the help of Varashta, a powerful Sekhema who has been suspended in time for eons, players will work to stop the Afarud and prevent their war from consuming Wraeclast.
Path of Exile Mirage Challenge League
In the Mirage Challenge League, players will encounter the souls of Djinn trapped and tortured by the Afarud. To set them free, you must enter unstable Mirages, imperfect copies of the areas surrounding the captured Djinn.
Within these Mirages, you will fight through monsters, astral hazards and powerful Afarud mages guarding the Djinn. Freeing them will grant valuable rewards and open new opportunities for progression throughout the league.
Choose Your Wish
Varashta, being a Djinn herself, can offer a fragment of ancient Maraketh power. Each time you enter a Mirage, you will be able to choose from three different wishes, each providing a powerful modifier that enhances the encounter.

These choices allow players to shape their experience and rewards, adding strategic depth and customization to each Mirage entered.
Empowered Leagues and Rewards
The magic of the Mirage will also affect other league mechanics that appear within its domain. These encounters are warped by astral forces, behaving differently and sometimes offering strange and powerful rewards.
This system allows familiar mechanics to feel refreshed and more rewarding as they interact with the Mirage’s influence.
Restore Maraketh Artefacts
The Afarud are not only torturers but thieves. Over the centuries, they have stolen priceless Maraketh artefacts and twisted them into corrupted tools for their own purposes.
Players can choose to harness the forbidden power of these artefacts or restore them to their original glory with Varashta’s aid, offering meaningful choices and different reward outcomes.
Imbue Your Skills
Enemies slain within Mirages can rarely drop powerful Maraketh magical items known as Coins of Power, Skill or Knowledge. These can be used on a level 20 skill gem, corrupting it and imbuing it with a built-in level 1 support effect that enhances the skill.
This system introduces new ways to customize and strengthen builds through rare and powerful enhancements.
Saresh, of the Weeping Black
By interfering with the Afarud’s plans, players will eventually draw the attention of Saresh, the necromancer supreme. This powerful enemy commands a terrifying undead legion and stands as a central threat within the Mirage expansion.
Facing Saresh will be a defining challenge for those seeking to halt the Afarud’s growing influence.

The Power of Light
Mirage introduces a variety of new Holy Skill Gems that expand combat possibilities and build diversity. Players will be able to:
Call down divine strikes of justice
Summon powerful divine armaments
Channel the power of the sun into destructive blasts
These new abilities provide fresh ways to approach combat and create new build archetypes centered around holy power.
Endgame Revised
Extensive changes are coming to the Atlas and mapping systems. Map items will no longer require a specific map to access associated areas. Instead, a map of a given tier can open any map of equal or lower tier within the Atlas.
Players will still be able to choose their destination through the Atlas interface, which will now default to the previously opened map, making repeated runs faster and more convenient.
Fractured Atlas
The Atlas structure itself has been reworked. Players will now begin at the center of the Atlas, with each corner housing one of the four Voidstones. Content accessed from the map device no longer exists physically on the Atlas, requiring exploration to uncover where powerful entities reside.
Many Atlas entities now grant Atlas Skill Points, allowing players to earn more than ever before. Unique maps are no longer required to obtain all Atlas Skill Points, as completing a set number of maps will grant the maximum amount.
Shaped Regions
As part of the expansion, players will continue helping Eagon in his search for Zana. Using Arcane Astrolabes, you will uncover Shaped Regions, unstable areas across the Atlas that must be subdued.
Each Shaped Region applies a baseline effect to affected maps and introduces unique completion conditions. Completing maps within these regions strengthens others in the same area, increasing difficulty and rewards as progression continues.
Treasures Await
After fully completing a Shaped Region, players will gain access to Memory Vaults. Each vault offers powerful rewards and fragments of lost knowledge for Eagon.
There are four vaults to explore, each holding valuable treasures and progression opportunities for those who complete the challenge.

Over 40 New Exceptional Support Gems
Mirage introduces more than 40 new Exceptional Support Gems that will begin dropping from specific Atlas bosses after defeating endgame Incarnation encounters.
These gems are highly transformative and provide new ways to customize builds in the late game, extending character progression and offering additional layers of customization.
Endgame Systems Overhaul
Alongside the major overhaul, several additional changes are being introduced to the endgame:
Adjustments to how Voidstones function
Removal of Petal skills
Balance updates to Scarabs
Tier 17 maps redesigned as Nightmare Maps focused on Uber Boss fragments
These changes aim to better align endgame systems with their intended design and progression flow.
Wield the Flame
Mirage introduces a new mechanic tied to Alilith and the Monastery of the Keepers, replacing the previous Breach system. Completing these encounters grants Hiveblood, which can be used to grow items from the Genesis Tree.
In the endgame, this system receives full Scarab and Atlas Tree support, allowing players to control encounter types, increase difficulty and improve rewards through specialized nodes and keystones.
Quality of Life Features
This expansion also introduces another round of Quality of Life improvements designed to make gameplay smoother and more intuitive. These include:
The ability to favourite trades in the currency exchange
Hover previews for asynchronous trade history
More streamlined interactions across trade and systems
Over 20 new landmark rooms added throughout the campaign
These new landmark rooms introduce unexpected encounters, hidden passages and additional rewards for players who explore Wraeclast more thoroughly.
Path of Exile Mirage launches on March 6th, bringing a new challenge league, extensive endgame changes, new skills and support gems, and a wide range of gameplay improvements that reshape the experience across both campaign and endgame. |
Conclusion:
Path of Exile Mirage delivers a comprehensive expansion that reshapes core systems while introducing new mechanics, deeper customization and meaningful progression across all stages of the game.
With a new challenge league, reworked Atlas systems, powerful new gems and numerous quality of life improvements, Mirage expands the Path of Exile experience while maintaining the depth and complexity that define its gameplay.
