On August 29, 2025, Grinding Gear Games released patch 0.3.0, The Third Edict, and the new league kicked off on a very positive note. The Free Weekend, running from August 29 to September 1, has already brought in a huge wave of new players testing the game for free. So far, the experience has been described as smooth, fun, and free of the major technical issues that often affect ARPG launches of this scale.

A stable beginning
Server performance has been one of the most praised aspects of the launch. Even with a massive increase in players, there were no widespread queues or severe instability. Some isolated issues, such as instance errors and client crashes, were reported on the official forums, but GGG quickly acknowledged these and confirmed they are being investigated for fixes. As a result, the launch maintained a strong first impression and gave the community a sense of stability.
New content and progression
The addition of Act 4: Karui Archipelago and three interludes made progression feel more dynamic and natural, removing the need for repetitive campaign runs. The seasonal league, Rise of the Abyssal, also started strong, introducing:
fissures with unique enemies,
a dedicated crafting system,
and exclusive rewards that players are already uncovering.
The rework of support gems and the arrival of asynchronous trade completed the package. Players now enjoy more creative build options and the ability to trade items even when sellers are offline, a long-requested feature that has been widely celebrated.
Path of Exile 2 The Third Edict – Concurrent players
One of the most notable highlights of the launch was the surge in active players. According to Steam data, Path of Exile 2 averaged only 7,866 concurrent players in July 2025.
Just a few hours before the launch, the player count was around:

However, during the first hours of the launch, SteamCharts recorded over 334,000 concurrent players.

While this did not surpass the all-time peak of 578,569 concurrent players set in December 2024, the jump clearly shows the impact that the new league had on the community.
Conclusion:
Patch 0.3.0 – Path of Exile 2 The Third Edict can be considered a successful launch. With stable servers, exciting new content, rising player counts, and GGG’s quick response to the minor issues reported, the update has reinforced community confidence and highlighted Path of Exile 2 as a strong contender in the ARPG genre.
