Path of Exile 2 continues to expand its character customization systems, and a new official preview has revealed an unreleased Ascendancy Class for the Sorceress that did not appear during the main livestream: Disciple of Varashta.
Presented by Mark Roberts, Game Director of Path of Exile, this Ascendancy introduces a highly flexible design centered around player choice and build personalization.

Who is Varashta in Path of Exile 2
Varashta was once a powerful leader of the Maraketh and, to this day, commands djinn within the Trial of the Sekhemas. These elemental entities remain bound, awaiting a worthy challenger. Should the Sorceress prove herself, Varashta may grant her control over these djinn, allowing them to fight under her command.
The Disciple of Varashta Ascendancy Concept
Disciple of Varashta is described as a “build your own summoner” Ascendancy. Rather than following a fixed archetype, this Ascendancy allows players to shape their own playstyle by choosing which djinn to command and how their abilities evolve.
This Ascendancy allows the Sorceress to summon up to three different djinn.
Each djinn has a distinct identity and role within a build. They are bound to their Barya and do not remain active permanently, only emerging when directly commanded.
The Available Djinn
Ruzhan, the Blazing Sword
Ruzhan is a fire djinn focused entirely on offense. He represents a powerful source of direct damage and is well suited for builds that prioritize destruction and aggressive combat.

Kelari's, the Tainted Sands
Kelari's is an assassin djinn specialized in fast, precise attacks. In addition to her offensive capabilities, she can support builds that rely on critical strikes to increase combat efficiency.

Navira, the Last Mirage
Navira is a water djinn focused on utility. Her primary role revolves around mana and energy shield recovery, making her a strong option for Sorceresses who prefer a more traditional caster playstyle with sustained resource management.

Djinn Command System and Progression
Each djinn begins with one command skill available by default. Through Ascendancy progression, players can invest points to unlock up to three additional command skills for each djinn, significantly expanding customization options.
This command-based system allows the Ascendancy to adapt to different goals, whether focused on damage output, utility, or supportive effects, without locking the player into a single predefined path.
Possible Build Approaches with Disciple of Varashta
Disciple of Varashta supports multiple build approaches depending on djinn selection and skill progression. A Sorceress can be built entirely around minions, using offensive djinn such as Ruzhan and Kelari's to maximize damage potential.
Another approach favors a more traditional caster style, relying on Navira to maintain mana and energy shield recovery, ensuring consistency and survivability during combat. Hybrid setups are also possible, combining offensive djinn with utility-focused choices to balance damage and support according to playstyle needs.
This flexibility reinforces the Ascendancy’s core philosophy: meaningful player choice without enforcing a single optimal build direction.

Conclusion:
Disciple of Varashta adds a new layer of depth to the Sorceress in Path of Exile 2 by introducing an Ascendancy built around strategic decisions and advanced customization. The djinn command system, combined with individual skill progression, greatly expands build diversity and gameplay expression.
By allowing players to freely combine damage, utility, and support, this Ascendancy further strengthens Path of Exile 2
identity as an ARPG focused on player freedom and impactful choices.
The only remaining question is whether players will prove worthy enough to earn Varashta’s favor and command the power of her djinn at launch. Stay tuned to PoE Builds for upcoming league updates, new patch information, and everything you need to start the season strong. ♥
