The New Era of Trading in Path of Exile 2
With the launch of Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict, the game finally receives a long-awaited improvement to its economy: the Path of Exile 2 Trade System, an asynchronous system that lets you buy items even if sellers are offline.
To make everything more practical, Grinding Gear Games also introduced the Merchant’s Tabs, a new stash tab type built specifically for trading.
All About the Path of Exile 2 Trade System – Merchant’s Tabs FAQ

When can Premium Stash Tabs be converted?
From patch 0.3.0 (August 29th, PST), any Premium Stash Tabs purchased before release can be turned into Merchant’s Tabs through your account settings. Tabs bought after this date will not be eligible.
When will Merchant’s Tabs appear in the store?
They become available the same day The Third Edict launches.
Price: 40 points each
Bundle: 200 points for six tabs
Added to the stash tab sale rotation about a month after release.
Is there a maximum number of Merchant’s Tabs?
No, players can own as many as they want.
Will they also work in Path of Exile 1?
Not immediately. Merchant’s Tabs will only function in PoE1 once the asynchronous trade system is brought over.
What happens to Premium Tabs in PoE1 after conversion?
Those tabs become remove-only until Merchant’s Tabs are officially supported in PoE1. Items inside remain safe.
Will everyone get a free Merchant’s Tab?
No. Players who want to use the new system must purchase or convert tabs, though all traditional trading methods will remain available.
Gold Costs and Trading Rules
Who pays the Gold cost when trading?
The buyer pays the Gold fee. Listing items as a seller does not cost Gold.
How are earnings collected?
Talk to Ange in your hideout and open the Earnings Tab. There, you can withdraw the currency earned from sales. Keep in mind this tab is remove-only, so you cannot place items back once withdrawn.
What happens if two players try to buy the same item?
The first player to complete the transaction receives the item.
Can Premium Quad Tabs be upgraded as well?
Yes, Quad Tabs can also be converted into Merchant’s Tabs.
Can I set one price for an entire tab?
No, each item must be priced individually. The system helps by auto-filling the last price you entered.
Can this system be abused to generate Gold?
No. Because of the Gold fee on purchases, buying items from a Merchant’s Tab and reselling them to vendors will never produce a profit.
Can I trade currency items through Merchant’s Tabs?
No. Currency items remain exclusive to the Currency Exchange system.
Advanced Features
Can I edit or remove items after listing them?
Yes, but with restrictions:
A cooldown applies when adjusting prices or removing items.
There’s a short grace period after adding an item, during which you can freely delist it before it goes live in the trade index.
Is this new system supported on consoles?
Yes. The asynchronous trade system and Merchant’s Tabs are fully available on console platforms.
What about SSF leagues?
Merchant’s Tabs cannot be used in SSF. Premium Stash Tabs remain available as normal.
Important Notes
Merchant’s Tabs are not free, but offer a huge quality-of-life improvement.
The system eliminates the need for sellers to be online when buyers make purchases.
It is carefully designed to prevent abuse and stabilize the in-game economy.
GGG is aware this is only the first version, and they’ll continue refining it based on community feedback.
Conclusion:
The addition of asynchronous trading and Merchant’s Tabs with The Third Edict completely changes how Path of Exile 2 players interact with the in-game market. Trading is now faster, simpler, and no longer depends on waiting for a seller to answer a whisper. Happy trading, Exiles!
