Grinding Gear Games has officially announced the new Path of Exile 1 expansion: Secrets of the Atlas. After a long wait since the last major update, and with the studio overcoming some internal challenges, Jonathan Rogers confirmed that development is back on track. The expansion is scheduled to launch on June 13.
GGG also revealed a new schedule with 4 month cycles alternating between Path of Exile 1 and Path of Exile 2:
The next PoE 2 league is set for August.
The next PoE 1 league will arrive in October.
During the livestream, which featured Twitch Drops, players will be able to claim the exclusive Immortal Skull helmet, which displays your kill/death stats in game.
Zana, the Atlas, and a Personal Quest
Zana is trapped within the Atlas. Her memories are being twisted and manifested as grotesque threats. To save her, players join forces with Egon, a new character who discovered how to access these corrupted memories through dimensional rifts known as Memory Ribbons.
These ribbons form the heart of the new endgame. Each one contains a sequence of maps, featuring enemies affected by memory fragments that grant the player special temporary abilities. Examples include:
Panic Memory: enemies resurrect on death, granting double XP and loot.
Disbelief Memory: suppresses normal drops in favor of higher-value rewards.
Impatience Memory: increases player damage when near enemies.
You can combine these memory effects strategically. At the end of each map, an altar lets you add cumulative affixes to upcoming maps. The deeper you go into a ribbon, the greater the difficulty, and the reward.
Bosses and Legendary Items
In deeper zones, you’ll face three new bosses: the Avatar of Panic, Avatar of Indifference, and Avatar of Fear. Defeating them grants unique rewards, such as:
Starcaller Axe: triggers a screen-wide elemental meteor effect on crit.
Prophet’s Wine Flask: randomly draws a prophecy card with powerful effects.
New Items and Memory Crafting
Rare items can now drop with up to 100 Memory Threads, which increase the strength of their modifiers.
Three new crafting currencies were introduced:
MemStone: adds threads to normal items.
ScrapStone: consumes threads to upgrade mods.
WillStone: removes junk drops and boosts the chance to find threaded items.
Also, both Shaper and Elder now have their own exclusive Exalted Orbs.
Atlas Passive Tree Updates
The Atlas tree has been updated to support the new systems:
New passives to increase boss encounter chances.
Nodes that enhance the quality and quantity of memory threads.
Mercenaries of Trarthus
During your journey, you’ll meet powerful mercenaries with unique fighting styles and gear. They’ll challenge you to a duel, and if you win, you can:
Hire them to fight alongside you.
Claim one of their items.
Exile them, temporarily removing them from your pool.
You can have up to three mercenaries: one active and two on standby. They don’t gain XP and must be replaced over time. Some exclusive gear includes:
Despisal Flow Boots: grant Arcane Surge when using a dash skill.
Wicked Items: brand-new mod types never seen before.

Kalguur Settlers Become Core Content
The Kalguur town has been permanently added to the game. Gold coins still serve to:
Reallocate passive points.
Gamble for rare items.
Trade currencies.
You can send resources to different ports to earn:
Tattoos that change passive stat bonuses.
Runed Knots, which replace specialization nodes with unique effects.
Betrayal Rework
The Betrayal system has been rebalanced and overhauled. The final boss now uses fragments and no longer resets the board. Each division has new rewards, and safehouses now offer crafting with Eternal Embers, which let players customize maps with monster groups and crafting bonuses.
Quality of Life Improvements
A range of QoL updates were included:
An extra slot in the Map Device.
Smarter currency application in strongboxes and essences.
Pause functionality in menus (excluding boss arenas).

Better controller support.
Improved UI for item sales and vendor searches.
Events & Cosmetic Packs
A Solo Self-Found Hardcore boss kill event will launch with the expansion. Two new supporter packs are available:
Feysia Judge
Gravekeeper
All cosmetics are compatible with PoE 2. The "Dawn of the Hunt" Mystery Box returns in PoE 1, and older supporter packs will be retired.
Conclusion:
Secrets of the Atlas is one of the most ambitious updates ever released for Path of Exile 1. With Memory Ribbons, a reworked Atlas passive tree, expanded crafting, a bold new league, and meaningful reworks, this expansion redefines the endgame experience.
Get ready, on June 13, the Atlas changes forever.
